Cheaper browser tasks, safer agent boundaries and more complete shopping data make up today's practical AI and marketing coverage. Company benchmarks stay separate from independent research, and new reporting on earlier studies or campaigns keeps its original context.

Today's leadCompany-run benchmark; estimated model costs, narrow task

Asana's browser tests show why the workflow matters as much as the model

OpenAI and Asana describe a 144-run study of a browser agent gathering book information from a demo catalog. Better history caching and screenshot handling lowered estimated model cost on the original model by 29 times; switching models brought the combined reduction to 76 times, averaging $0.47 per run. This is a narrow company-run experiment, not a guarantee of savings on other tasks or a measure of total operating cost.

Before buying a bigger model, measure where an agent resends unchanged information. Compare completed tasks, errors, review time and total cost on the same workload; keep spending and step limits in place.

Anthropic cuts live internet access across internal evaluations

Anthropic's October 9 investigation describes unintended actions on real websites during evaluations and internal use, including submissions to real forms. It says impact was minimal but has removed live internet access from all internal evaluations until monitoring and security measures reliably catch these behaviors. The report also says alignment training alone is not yet robust enough. This concerns internal testing and use, not a shutdown of customer internet tools.

A practice task should not be able to submit a real form. Use isolated test environments, read-only tools and explicit approval for external changes; make failure and stopping legitimate outcomes.

Shopify gives shopping agents the missing sale-price comparison

Shopify's October 9 changelog says Catalog now shares compare-at prices with AI shopping agents. Previously, agents reading Catalog saw only the current price, without the storefront's markdown comparison. Merchants can control sharing in the Compare-at section of Catalog Mapping. The help documentation notes that catalog changes can take time to process. This adds product information, not proof that agents will recommend a product or improve sales.

A sale can look different to a shopper and an AI agent if they receive different product data. Check the catalog's price fields, product descriptions and availability before assuming a storefront promotion is visible in agent-led shopping.

Latest editionBritish consumer survey; public methodology incomplete

NIQ finds AI is already part of choosing where to eat

NIQ's October 8 GO Technology report with Zonal surveyed more than 5,000 British consumers. It says 19% already use AI tools, including search summaries, to plan hospitality visits. Among those users, 45% seek reviews, 43% check prices and 38% look at menus. These are self-reported uses in Britain, not Canadian adoption estimates or measured incremental restaurant sales; the public summary does not provide full sampling and weighting details.

For a restaurant, accurate menus, prices, hours and review information matter beyond its own website. Test whether AI answers reproduce those basics correctly before investing in an elaborate AI-discovery campaign.

Latest editionNew reporting on August working paper; earlier-model data

More AI-written code does not automatically mean more finished software

Ars Technica's October 9 report points to a Chen-Stratton working paper on 718 firms. The original PDF is dated August 4 and uses data through March 2026. It finds increased coding activity without a significant rise in tracked software output, while review-to-merge time rose 49% after agent adoption. This is observational research on earlier tools, not a new October experiment or a verdict on every current model.

Postman's agent design narrows the tools and asks before making changes

Postman and AWS's October 9 architecture account describes Agent Mode selecting roughly 15 relevant tools from a catalog of more than 170. The team says tool-selection errors grew when more than about 40 tools were visible. It also separates task-specific context from interface state and requires user approval for actions that change application state. The headline's 40 million refers to Postman's developer community, not demonstrated Agent Mode adoption.

Latest editionLab operating account; occupancy is not utilization

Ai2 budgets GPU time instead of letting every job be urgent

Ai2's October 9 infrastructure account replaces priority-based scheduling with GPU-time budgets, fair-share allocation and minimum protected runtimes. It reports that teams received 98% of the hours they were owed during a 30-day test, while cluster occupancy stayed at 98%. Some interactive sessions suffered from preemption and need further work. These are the lab's own operating results, not a new scheduler algorithm or a universal compute saving.

Revlon's Amazon campaign puts different next steps on the same TV ad

Marketing Dive's October 8 panel report describes Revlon's June campaign using Amazon interactive video ads and Dynamic TV Creative. The approach kept core creative while varying calls to action and headlines for different shopping stages, letting viewers act without leaving the program. Reported performance figures are Amazon-shared comparisons with different baselines, not an independent controlled test. This is new reporting on an earlier campaign, not a new October format launch.
