Local AI still needs permissions, useful tasks and an awake computer
The Verge's Antonio G. Di Benedetto describes early Hermes Agent experiments with local models: a daily briefing, library organization and small analysis tasks. He reports recurring briefing failures and notes that scheduled work required an awake Mac. Local inference did not remove the need to grant tool permissions or connect external services. These are one reviewer's field notes, not a controlled benchmark or a guarantee that every integration keeps data local.
Context & source check
Start with one bounded task on non-sensitive data. Check the model endpoint, tool permissions and every external integration separately; a locally running model does not by itself establish an offline workflow. Include sleep and restart behavior in the test.
Independent hands-on field notes; not a benchmark or new model launch. Independent reporting. Source checked Oct 12, 2026. Not independently tested.
